I have noticed that people in volvo's do not wave at each other, I used to drive a classic 900 saab and other saab drivers in the same car or in a 9000 would wave and flash their lights at each other. My wife drives a '68' beetle and other old beetle drivers, split drivers, bay drivers and wedge drivers all wave and flash their lights. I have tried doing the same in my 240 estate but people look at me as if I am a bit odd (perhaps I am!!!!) So can we get something like this for vovlo drivers??

I only ever get a wave when I am driving the Amazon, and then only from selective Volvo drivers. Jim

Just had a thought maybe we should develop a VOC wave to fellow owners. A special secret wave that we only understand one another. Jim

Ahhh, it does exist, it's very subtle is the Volvo wave, usually just consists of relaxing the right-hand grip of the steering wheel and raising the top two fingers slightly, blink and it's gone. Having said that I usually only get a response from the drivers of older cars. :Banane15: Dave

Motorcyclists usually give each other a 'nod' when they pass regardless of what type of motorcycle they are riding. With cars is different, too many people just buy cars as a tool and couldn't care less about others I guess, but those who are into cars usually give a knowing glance. I have found that this does work with those who drive older classics like the triumph spitfire, lotus talbot sunbeam, capri 280 brooklands etc, they seem to know that when you look, you can appreciate the vehicle. The other day as I was leaving my dentists, I saw a gorgeous blonde trundling along in a late 90's V70R in black, looking for a parking spot within the complex, I just stared at her, thinking, hot chick ... hot car .... she looked at me with a baffled expression until I pointed out to her that I was just leaving and she could park in the space I was in, then she was quite thankful.

MG midget drivers used to do that (and still do I think) from when they began in 1959 - I wonder if they started the tradition? When I had one in the '70's one girlfriend asked "how come where ever we go you always see people you know?"

Back in my earlier Alfa days (up to about 2000) I always used to get an Alfa wave. In my second Alfa phase (had a 166 V6 for a few months last year) the wave had become less common (as the cars became more common). I try a Volvo wave, especially if the car's more than about 5 years old, but never get a response.
